Urban Democracy

“Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together” (Psalms 122:3)
The story of Jerusalem is hidden through its connections. This project’s milestone is within the biblical chapter related to it. The need of a permanent place that indisputably is the heart connecting all parts of the frame, pointed to the placement of Kiryat HaLeom. The space, which was designed as one that generates action and is located in the city’s center, became a “dark stain” of daily life in the city, due to its nationalist content. Recently, a renewed plan was passed for one of the city’s entry points. The design implements the urban and political vision that emphasizes the conflict of interest between the needs of the nation and the needs of residents and civilians, and thus supports the civic vacuum that has been created as a result. The architectural action involved with the design of this space, presenting it as a democratic and public space, has changed the outline in the relations between the “urban-political client” and the citizen. Thus, turning it into a collective system, whose duty is to connect the neighborhoods adjacent to Kiryat HaLeom with the urban-political stage, this planning will provide access to civic needs where the governmental stain remains.
